Open Scene's II Voices | Raquel
“It is the silence that speaks to me, and I answer back.” At night, the whispers of souls crying out for justice travel with the wind and the desert sands.
As part of a local circus, Raquel—a cis woman portrayed by Karina Gentile—and Desiré, a transgender woman, share a deep and loving relationship. However, one December night, their world is shattered when they are brutally attacked, raped, and torn apart by a group of heartless police officers.
From that moment, Raquel embarks on a relentless quest fueled by love and an unquenchable thirst for justice—one laced with the bitter taste of revenge. Along the way, she encounters spiritual guidance that unveils hidden truths, ultimately steering the story toward a powerful and transcendental resolution.
An original play by Claudia Vargas Vega, Raquel is brought to life through an experimental and surreal direction by Edwin Yumar and produced by Open Scene. Step into Raquel’s journey and witness a tale where resilience and justice intertwine.
