Open Scene: Multicultural Artistic Experiences in Orlando

Criteria for Acceptance of Works and Steps to Participate in Open Scene's Latin Festival of Performing Arts (FLAE):

01

Theatrical works produced in Spanish are encouraged. However, productions in other languages or those without spoken words, including dance, dance-theater, physical theater, or mixed media, will be considered provided that at least 60% of the production team is of Latin or Ibero-American descent.

For the purposes of this call, Latin is understood in its broad cultural and linguistic sense, encompassing individuals and communities whose cultural heritage is connected to languages derived from Latin, including but not limited to Southern Europe, Latin America, and parts of Africa where Romance languages are spoken.

The production team includes performers, technical and creative staff, authors, and directors.

03

Both published and unpublished works are eligible. Previously released, awarded, or publicly presented works, whether fully staged or shared through readings or other formats, will also be considered.

05

A résumé must be submitted for each key member of the creative team, including the playwright, director, and producer.

02

The work must be between 45 and 120 minutes in length. Plays may be presented either in person or streamed online. All selected works will include a facilitated conversation with the production team and audience, conceived as an integral component of the artistic experience and scheduled either before or after the presentation.

04

For evaluation purposes, applicants must submit either the complete script, an unedited video of the full production, a rehearsal recording, or, in the case of works not yet produced, a detailed project description. All submissions must be received by July 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

06

Open Scene will review submissions on a rolling basis, prioritizing those that demonstrate strong alignment with the curatorial vision and production framework of the Latin Performing Arts Festival (FLAE).

Selected companies, whether presenting in person or digitally, will receive financial compensation. Specific terms will be shared upon selection.

Interested applicants should submit all required materials to info@openscene.org. For inquiries, please contact us at the same email address or via Instagram (@openscene_org).

Open Scene welcomes submissions from theater companies based in Florida and beyond. We are committed to an inclusive and respectful selection process and do not discriminate on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, language, or any other personal or cultural characteristic.

🎭 FLAE is an open stage. Bold work, distinct voices, and compelling perspectives are not only welcome, they are expected.
