Join Open Scene as a Volunteer:
Create Impact Through the Arts

Hello, Scenius! Sign up for the available opportunity of your choice.

Volunteer with VI FIAE

Be part of the festival behind the scenes.

Open Scene is looking for volunteers to help bring VI FIAE, our International Performing Arts Festival, to life at the Maitland Art Center. This is an opportunity to work alongside our production team, experience how an international festival comes together, and support artists and performances from setup through strike.

We are currently looking for help in the following areas:

Stage Masking
Wednesday, October 14 — Morning

Help prepare and mask the performance area before technical setup begins. This role requires attention to detail and comfort following the production team’s instructions.

Equipment Load-In & Setup
Thursday, October 15 — Morning

Help unload audio, lighting, staging and other technical equipment and assist the crew during setup. Volunteers with basic technical, theater or AV experience are especially welcome.

Technical Rehearsals
Saturday, October 17 & Sunday, October 18

We need at least one volunteer each day to assist the lighting team during technical rehearsals, including repositioning lights as directed while the lighting console is being programmed.

Festival Strike
Monday, October 19 — Morning

Help dismantle, organize and pack technical equipment and staging after the festival concludes.

No professional theater experience is required for most positions. Reliability, willingness to help and the ability to follow production instructions are the most important qualifications. Please let us know if you have previous theater, production, lighting, sound or AV experience.
