About the event

a loom, a fence, a wire, a thread

April 25 – July 5, 2026 · Art & History Museums, Maitland

Syrian-American artist and Fulbright scholar Mär Martinez presents her first solo museum exhibition — born from nighttime walks through Istanbul's neighborhoods and deep research into traditional Turkish and Middle Eastern textile traditions.

Her paintings transform architectural barriers, barbed wire, and century-old patterns into something quietly powerful: motifs of both resistance and resilience. A meditation on memory, heritage, and the way we build walls — and weave through them.
