About the event

Join us on March 28, 2026 at the Art & History Museums – Maitland for a guided experience of The Situated Body: Reconfiguring the Symbolic, a new exhibition by Mexican sculptor Jacobo Alonso.

Using materials such as soot on paper and reconfigured felt, Alonso revisits the human body through unexpected textures and forms. His work draws from pre-Columbian traditions and from the museum’s Mayan Revival architecture to question how we see form, identity, and movement today.

Together with A&H, Maison Française / Open Scene invites you to experience this opening night through a small-group guided tour in the language of your choice (French, Spanish, or English).

During the tour, we will:

  • explore key works from the exhibition

  • introduce vocabulary and concepts connected to the body, space, and identity
