About the event
Late Conversations is a recurring series of open discussions held at the Germaine Marvel Building at the Art & History Museums of Maitland. Each evening brings together a small group around one question, with wine, water or coffee, without agendas, and without easy answers. Conversations are held primarily in English. Language assistance in 25+ languages available upon request.
We often think of identity as something that brings people together. But what happens when identity becomes a box?
This evening we explore how collective identities create solidarity and visibility, while also producing exclusion and simplification. Who defines cultural belonging? When does identity empower, and when does it contain? Can cultures exist beyond borders and labels?
