Open Scene’s September 2021 Art in the Garden brought theater, music, dance, visual art, puppetry, food, and community gathering into a single outdoor program for Hispanic Heritage Month. The event featured a dramatic reading of VOS by Guillermo Severiche, winner of the first Escena Abierta Playwriting Contest, directed by Eliana Strático. Music came from Ka Malinalli, Nélida Málaga, and Leo Aether, with flamenco by Jenny Ríos and puppetry by Titirifá. A visual arts exhibition presented work by ten Latin American artists based in the region, creating a multidisciplinary showcase of local and diasporic voices.
