Exquisite Corpse: An immersive VR Experience

Project Type

Multidisciplinary Art Installation | Virtual Reality | Free Event

Date

October 2021

Exquisite Corpse was an unexpected and innovative immersive VR experience produced by Open Scene. Inspired by the surrealist technique of the same name, the project combined virtual reality, poetry, and visual arts to craft a collective, ever-evolving narrative.
This immersive work invited participants to contribute creatively, co-authoring a virtual journey that blurred the boundaries between artist and audience.
A Highlight of Immerse Fest
Presented during Immerse Fest in Downtown Orlando, Exquisite Corpse engaged more than 300 participants across multiple days. Each participant entered the virtual space, added their layer of imagination, and passed it on—building a story of shared consciousness, line by line, image by image.
Why “Exquisite Corpse”?
The project drew inspiration from the surrealist literary method where each contributor adds to a composition without knowing the full content created before them. This artistic collaboration generated spontaneous meaning and celebrated the unpredictable nature of creation.
