FLAE 2021 by Open Scene marked the inaugural edition of the Festival Latinoamericano de Artes Escénicas, bringing together more than 80 Latinx artists in a powerful celebration of theater, visual arts, and cultural heritage.
Held in Orlando and online, the festival featured five dynamic workshops focused on creativity, acting, styling, and personal branding for independent performers. The Spanish-language theater productions included El Merólico en el Encierro from Mexico, Dos Familias from Orlando, and Esta Mañana me Despertó el Canto de las Ballenas from Venezuela — each followed by artist talkbacks.
The in-person programming included a curated visual arts exhibition by City Arts, highlighting ten local artists, and performances from leading Latinx companies like Producciones Zona 0, Open Scene, and Ana Cuellar Productions. Live pre-shows included folkloric dance groups, music ensembles, and the Orlando Gay Chorus.
As Open Scene’s first major initiative post-pandemic, FLAE 2021 set the tone for a new wave of accessible, multicultural performing arts experiences in Central Florida.
