Open Scene’s second Festival Latinoamericano de Artes Escénicas (FLAE) took place June 20–26, 2022, through a hybrid program combining online workshops and theater with three days of live programming at Orlando Shakes’ Mandell Studio Theatre.
The online program opened with professional workshops led by Mario Sudano (La técnica Clown en la Actuación), Ruddy Rodríguez, Sherman Torres (El Arte de Desdoblarse), Miguel Salas (La Ópera y el Manejo del Cuerpo), and Nis Alvarado (Exprime las redes sociales). Online theater included Insomne, a live virtual microtheater drama with Flor Elena González, followed by a conversation, and Por Todo lo que Jodemos las Mujeres, a comedy with Anna Beatriz Osorio.
The in-person festival opened June 24 with EnMi by Ana Cuellar Productions, followed by Open Scene’s production of Raquel. On June 25, elArtiko presented Tequila o Ron, followed by Oda a México with Ballet Folklórico México Lindo and Mariachi Fusión. The festival closed June 26 with La Orgia by HavanaFama and Isso é capoeira by Capoeira for Tomorrow.
Throughout the in-person festival, Open Scene also presented an exhibition by visual artist Mär Martínez, curated by SoTA Collection. The 2022 edition brought together more than 60 artists through theater, dance, music, visual art, workshops, and cultural exchange.
