Escena Abierta III | Dramatic Readings 2023

With support from the Florida Department of State, Open Scene expanded Escena Abierta in 2023 through dramatic readings of works recognized across the first three editions of the playwriting contest. Directed by Rafael Barazarte of Caracas’ Trasnocho Cultural, the program connected artists and audiences across multiple locations. Featured works included Algo Huele a Podrido en este Edificio by Mar Gámez (Special Mention 2021), La Madre Que No Me Parió by Antonio García del Toro (Special Mention 2022), and Aquel Mi Terrenito by Marco Mancilla (Winner 2023). The reading of Aquel Mi Terrenito was produced in collaboration with Trasnocho Cultural and the Centro Venezolano Americano (CVA) in Caracas. The series strengthened Escena Abierta’s role as a platform for contemporary Spanish-language playwriting and cross-border artistic exchange.
