Staged readings

August–September 2026

Winner: Una noche a la deriva

Jury Special Mention: El Guernica de Dora Maar

The fifth edition of Open Scene’s Escena Abierta Playwriting Contest recognized Una noche a la deriva by Spanish playwright Antonio Oliveira Pérez as the 2025 winner and awarded a Jury Special Mention to El Guernica de Dora Maar by Spanish playwright David Barbero. Because of budget constraints, the staged readings were produced the following year, in 2026, while remaining part of the 2025 competition cycle. Una noche a la deriva was presented on August 29, 2026. El Guernica de Dora Maar was presented on September 10, 2026, in co-production with Malportao Producciones, with logistical support from Divarte Cine and Pata Negra Rental. By carrying the awarded works from selection into public reading, Escena Abierta V continued the program’s commitment to contemporary Spanish-language playwriting and international artistic collaboration.
