The sixth edition of Open Scene’s Escena Abierta International Playwriting Contest recognized Viajeras by Spanish playwright Alba Celma as the 2026 winning play. The work interweaves the present-day journey of Asha, a young Iranian film student living in Madrid, with the 1889 race around the world between journalists Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland. Through travel, ambition, displacement, and freedom of movement, Viajeras asks who has the right to tell a story. The winning work receives a staged reading on October 15 during VI FIAE at the Maitland Art Center.
